Buying a mobile app: what's different from a SaaS

  • The store takes a cut. Apple and Google keep 15–30% of subscriptions. Check whether the revenue and margin shown are before or after that commission.
  • Growth is usually bought. Many subscription apps grow with paid installs (Meta, TikTok, Apple Search Ads). Ask for the cost per install and the trial-to-paid rate, then rebuild the payback yourself.
  • Churn is higher. Weekly and monthly consumer plans churn faster than B2B tools; annual plans and lifetime cohorts tell you how sticky the app really is.
  • The transfer goes through the store. The app, its reviews and active subscriptions move with an App Store Connect or Google Play transfer, not just a code handover.

That's why apps ask a median 2.7x annual revenue against 3.6x for web SaaS, and why our MRRdeals Score compares every app with other apps. Run the numbers with the payback calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy a mobile app with verified revenue?

TrustMRR lists iOS and Android apps whose subscription revenue is read directly from RevenueCat, Superwall, the App Store or Stripe. MRRdeals ranks every app with an asking price and at least $100/month of revenue, so you can start from the best-scored ones.

How much do mobile apps sell for?

In October 2026 the median subscription app for sale on TrustMRR asked about $20,000, or 2.7x its annual revenue, against 3.6x for web SaaS. Apps trade lower because of store commissions, faster churn and their reliance on paid acquisition or App Store ranking.

What should I check before buying an app?

Whether the revenue figures are gross or net of the 15-30% store commission, churn and trial conversion in RevenueCat, the cost and return of paid installs, App Store ranking and reviews, and whether the developer account, bundle ID and subscriptions can be transferred to you.

Can I transfer an iOS app to my own developer account?

Yes. Apple lets the seller transfer an app to another developer account from App Store Connect, keeping its reviews, ranking and active subscriptions, as long as both accounts meet Apple's transfer conditions. Google Play has an equivalent app transfer process.
